Crown Cube rules
Crown Cube is a race through a random maze wrapped around all six sides of a cube. First monster to the crown wins.
How Crown Cube works
- The maze covers all 6 faces of the cube, 8Γ8 tiles each. Red walls stand just above the floor, and corridors run over the edges onto the next face.
- Each player's monster starts in the middle of their own face with 5 β€. Roll the die and move up to that many tiles. First to the π crown wins. The advisor in the corner shows how many steps the shortest path takes.
- When your turn starts, grey tiles show the path your monster took last turn. The darkest grey is where it ended up.
- Power bank: your saved powers and keys are listed in your player card. Before you roll, tap them to play as many as you like, one after another. Then roll and move.
- Visible monsters: pass over one to battle it. It secretly picks its Team, Attack or Trait move. Guess the move and you win: that power goes into your power bank and the monster joins your monster bank. Guess wrong and you get nothing, and the monster runs off to another spot on the cube.
- Player battles: if your monster passes over or lands on another player's monster, the two monsters battle. Each player draws a random monster card and rolls the die (a tie rolls again). The highest roll wins and picks one power from either card (its Team, Attack or Trait) for their power bank.
- Mystery blocks plug some corridors. Walk up to one and it checks your monster bank. If you've collected the monster inside, the block and your banked monster both teleport away. If not, you pick from 2 cards. Guess right and keep moving. Guess wrong and try again next turn.
- πͺ Coins: pass over one to draw a monster card and save one of its powers to your power bank.
- π Keys: pass over one to save it. Play a key before rolling to step through a wall onto the tile behind it.
- Hidden teleports: four tiles are secret teleports. Pass over one and it turns Magenta, Cyan, Orange or Violet, and your monster is sent to the same spot on the opposite side of the cube. A random tile on that side turns the same colour. The two tiles of one colour form a teleport route: anyone who ends a move on either tile jumps to the other, for the rest of the game.
- Hunters: 3 hunters per player roam the cube. Hunters belong to no one: they take turns on their own, and every hunter moves once per round. Each one rolls its own hidden die and moves that many tiles toward the nearest player's monster or the crown. Hunters never chase the monsters on the board. You can see where the hunters are, but their rolls are secret. If one catches you, you battle it before your next move: a random monster card is drawn and the hunter secretly picks its Team, Attack or Trait move. Guess right to win that power. Win or lose, the hunter then teleports to a random spot on the cube. If two hunters end up on the same tile, the one that arrived last teleports to a random spot.
- If a hunter reaches the crown, a 5-minute countdown starts. Each further hunter at the crown takes 15 seconds off. At zero, the crown teleports somewhere new.
- Coin and battle powers either hit a rival monster or help your own. A monster at 0 β€ goes back to its start with 5 β€.
- 100 levels: choose β100 levelsβ in the Game menu to play fixed mazes that get harder level by level: longer routes, fewer shortcuts, more blocks and hunters, fewer coins and keys, and more computer rivals. Beat a level to unlock the next. Your progress is saved in your browser.
- Winning: when you grab the crown, a celebration pops up with buttons to share your win on Facebook, X, Reddit, WhatsApp or by email.
- Play online: pick a mode with 2 or more players, tap Create and share the room code. Friends type the code and tap Join on their own phone or computer. When everyone has joined, the host taps Start game. Each player takes their own turns, and computer players fill the computer seats. If someone taps Leave, a computer takes over their monster.
- Missing players: if a player closes their tab and stops responding for 30 seconds on their turn, the others get a Skip turn button. After 3 skips, a computer plays for that player. When they open the game again, they rejoin automatically and take their monster back at the start of their next turn.
